New Normal When Economy Re-opens

After several weeks of staying home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the economy is now starting to reopen in different states. Although there are many looking forward to the reopening of the economy, a good number of us are still a little bit concerned. There is some fear and pessimism, since there still isn’t any vaccine available to fight the coronavirus (covid-19).

So what will the “New Normal” be like when we start to go back to our daily routines? This will be an ongoing challenge as we are trying to adjust to the new rules and safety guidelines in our homes and daily lives.

We have to always be more cautious and mindful of the things we do on a daily basis. It is important to note that good infection control and policies always work when it comes to keeping everyone safe.

Here are some safety guidelines we need to observe at all times:

  1. Proper hand washing for 20 seconds or more should be part of our daily routine. It is important that you lather your hands with soap by rubbing them together and making sure that you get the soap off.

  1. Regular hand sanitizing, especially before and after meals (if soap and water are not available). Be sure to use hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol to kill the virus.

  1. Avoid touching your face (especially your eyes, nose and mouth) unless you washed/sanitized your hands.

  1. Spray or disinfect doorknobs and all frequent touch points (doorknobs, bathroom handles, windows, drawers, etc.) throughout the house.

  1. Practice social distancing at all times. Remember, 6-feet apart- that’s about 2-arms’ length from other people. Assume everyone to be a COVID carrier that can infect you. At the same time, have the same mindset that you can be asymptomatic that could affect others as well.

  1. Use face masks in public places, especially if you are using public transportation.

  1. Avoid large crowds and gatherings. If it is not necessary, consider not going. If you have to go, be sure to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

  1. Avoid embraces and shaking hands for the protection of everyone, especially the older adults.

  1. If you need to sneeze or cough, be sure to use a tissue or the inside of your elbow. Safely dispose of the tissue, then wash or sanitize your hands after coughing or sneezing.

  1. If you are sick, be sure to stay home. This is very important in avoiding the spread of the virus.

This will be the “new normal.” It will take time for us to get used to this but, we will. Always remember, practicing good hygiene and following basic health tips are key in keeping everyone safe and protected from the coronavirus. If there is one positive out come from this pandemic, it is better infection control policies and procedures. We are now more aware and vigilant when it comes to cleanliness and safety. Thus, making everyone feel safer. “This too shall pass.”
